Student Events
Three Student Events
Temple Challenge Cup
Student Men's Eight Oars with Coxswain (M8+)
In search of the right formula for eights events at the Regatta an additional event was instituted in 1990 for eights of single colleges, smaller university boat clubs and schools unable to enter The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup by reason of age.
The rules have evolved to cater for the majority of student crews, but a number of important restrictions remain. The intention is that the first boats from leading universities should be racing in the ‘Ladies’’ and not the ‘Temple’.
Island Challenge Cup
Student Women's Eight Oars with Coxswain (W8+)
This was one of three new eights events for women introduced in 2021. The event is open to entries from any academic institution, but with similar restrictions to The Temple Challenge Cup.
Prince Albert Challenge Cup
Student Men's Four Oars with Coxswain (M4+)
This event for universities, colleges and schools was introduced in 2004, effectively splitting the ‘Britannia’ in two.
The first winner of the event was a crew from Imperial College London, and in 2006 the College presented the Regatta with The Prince Albert Challenge Cup.
