EVENTS AT HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

The Events are grouped into different categories. At the top level there are six open events for men and six open events for women. At the intermediate level there are three events for men, catering for the best of the club and student crews. The next level offers five men's events for the majority of club and student oarsmen and one event for student women crews. Finally, there are two events for junior men and one event for junior women.

Please note the following event descriptions give a general understanding of the Qualification Rules. They do not have the level of detail that is to be found in the official Qualification Rules.

Qualification Rules

EIGHTS

Entry fee: £200

The Grand Challenge Cup (M8+)

Open to crews from all eligible clubs. This is the top event for Eights at the Regatta. Two or more clubs may combine to make an entry.

The Remenham Challenge Cup (W8+)

The event for open Women's Eights. The event is limited to 8 crews.
 
All crews entering should expect to have to compete in the Qualifying Races. However, particular note will be taken of the results in Elite Eights at Henley Women's Regatta when considering which crews will be required to race in the Qualifying Races for this event.

The Ladies' Challenge Plate (M8+)

For club and university crews below The Grand Challenge Cup standard. No heavyweight F.I.S.A. Senior national crews may enter for this event.

The Thames Challenge Cup (M8+)

For club crews below The Ladies' Challenge Plate standard. Student crews from academic institutions are not allowed to enter this event. Combined club entries are not permitted, nor may squad oarsmen seeking selection for F.I.S.A. Heavyweight or Lightweight Championships row in this event. No F.I.S.A. Under 23 national crew may contend for this prize. Please read the latest version of the Qualification & General Rules to understand the restrictions relating to individual crew members.

 

No one (coxswains excepted) shall compete in this event and in any other event at the same Regatta.

The Temple Challenge Cup (M8+)

Open to any crew of eligible members of a boat club of any university, college or secondary school. Combined entries may only be made by no more than two college boat clubs of any one university.

The Island Challenge Cup (W8+)

Open to any crew of eligible members of a boat club of any university, college or secondary school. Combined entries may only be made by no more than two college boat clubs of any one university.

The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup (JM8+)

Open to any crew of schoolboys who will have not attained their 19th birthdays by the end of the Regatta. Combined entries from different schools are not permitted. Only one crew per school may enter this event.

COXLESS FOURS

Entry Fee: £100

The Stewards' Challenge Cup (M4-)

Open to crews from all eligible clubs. This is the top event for Coxless Fours at the Regatta. Two or more clubs may combine to make an entry.

The Town Challenge Cup (W4-)

Open to eligible members of any club established at least one year before the closing date for entries.

The Visitors' Challenge Cup (M4-)

For club and university crews below The Stewards' Challenge Cup standard. No F.I.S.A. Senior national crew (heavyweight or lightweight) may enter for this event.

The Wyfold Challenge Cup (M4-)

The same as for The Thames Challenge Cup. The club event for Coxless Fours. No one shall compete in this event and in any other event at the same Regatta.

QUADRUPLE SCULLS

Entry Fee: £100

The Queen Mother Challenge Cup (M4x)

Open to crews from any eligible club. This is the top event for men's Quadruple Sculls at the Regatta. Two or more clubs may combine to make an entry.

The Princess Grace Challenge Cup (W4x)

Open to women's crews from any eligible club. Two or more clubs may combine to make an entry. The event is limited to 8 crews. All crews entering should expect to have to compete in the Qualifying Races.

The Prince of Wales Challenge Cup (M4x)

For club and university crews below The Queen Mother Challenge Cup standard. No heavyweight F.I.S.A. Senior national crews may enter for this event. No one shall compete in this event and in any other sculling event at the same Regatta.

The Fawley Challenge Cup (JM4x)

Open to crews from any one club or school where no sculler will have attained his 18th birthday before the first day of September preceding the event.

The Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup (JW4x)

Open to crews from any one club or school where no sculler will have attained her 18th birthday before the first day of September preceding the event.

coxed fours

Entry Fee: £100

The Britannia Challenge Cup (M4+)

An event for club crews only, at the same level as The Thames Challenge Cup.
 
No one (coxswains excepted) shall compete in this event and in any other event at the same Regatta.

The Prince Albert Challenge Cup (M4+)

An event for student crews only, at the same level as The Temple Challenge Cup except no one shall compete in this event if he has in any previous year won an event at the Regatta, other than The Princess Elizabeth or The Fawley Challenge Cups.
 
No one (coxswains excepted) shall compete in this event and in any other event at the same Regatta.

COXLESS PAIRS

Entry Fee: £70

The Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup (M2-)

Open to eligible members of any club. The crew must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in rowing.

The winners each receive a Silver Goblet to keep.

The Hambleden Pairs Challenge Cup (W2-)

Open to eligible members of any club. The crew must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in rowing.

DOUBLE SCULLS

Entry Fee: £70

The Double Sculls Challenge Cup (M2x)

Open to eligible members of any club. The crew must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in sculling.

The Stonor Challenge Trophy (W2x)

Open to eligible members of any club. The crew must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in sculling.

SINGLE SCULLS

Entry Fee: £40

The Diamond Challenge Sculls (M1x)

For men - open to eligible members of any club. The sculler must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in sculling.
 
The winner will receive one of the famous 'Pineapple' Cups to keep. This tradition of giving a 'Pineapple' cup to the winner started in 1850.

The Princess Royal Challenge Cup (W1x)

For women - open to eligible members of any club. The sculler must be at least of British Rowing Senior status in sculling.
