Morning Briefing with Sarah Winckless – Sunday

All the things you need to know about the racing today at Henley Royal Regatta with Sarah Winckless, Race Umpire, Steward and Olympic medallist.

OVERVIEW

Here we are on Finals Day

26 Races

Conditions: We’ve had rain that wasn’t forecast, but it looks like the conditions are very good, a holding headwind might be favouring the more powerful crews.

Before the races let’s look the clubs that have really fantastic Regatta so far and are contesting a number of Finals.

Leander Club

Thames Rowing Club

Oxford Brookes University

Doubling up:

Hinksey Sculling Club

RACES TO WATCH

Really hard to do the Ones to Watch today, but I’m going these the ones because they have been so, so tight in their racing.

Race 5

The Jubilee (Women’s Junior Quad Sculls); Shiplake College ‘A’ vs Marlow Rowing Club

I’m umpiring that race as well and really, really looking forward to it.

Marlow coached by Pete Chambers.

Shiplake College have looked fantastic all week.

Race 16

The Island (Student Women’s Eight); University of London ‘A’ vs Oxford Brookes University ‘A’

Really hard to call which way that race will go. Oxford Brookes looked really impressive beating Cambridge University yesterday.

Race 17

The Doubles (Men’s Double Sculls) ; Haywood & Meijer vs McCarthy & O’Donovan

The lightweight Olympic champions just a couple of weeks ago.

We saw they yesterday being led in their semi-final. So it will be interesting to see what speed they do have. They may be tested by Haywood & Meijer,  heavyweights & u23 world champions in the quad.

Race 22

The Princess Royal (Women’s Single Sculls); Lola Anderson vs Lauren Henry

We have only had one Briton to hold the Princess Royal Challenge Cup, one of our Stewards’ in 2000. She will be either by one of these.

Race 25

The Britannia (Men’s Club Four); Frankfurter Germania (GER) vs Hinksey Sculling School
