Morning Briefing with Jess Eddie – Tuesday

Morning Briefing with Jess Eddie – Tuesday 1 July, 2025

All you need to know about the racing today at Henley Royal Regatta with Olympic silver medalist and HRR Steward, Jess Eddie. It’s going to be a hot one, but here are my three races to keep a close eye on today.

10. 10:20 Diamond Jubilee 530 Hartpury College v 532 Headington School

Hartpury College have won this event multiple times in a run that stretched from 2014 to 2017, and they will come up against Headington, who are one of the powerhouses of junior women’s rowing. They are previous winners and holders of the eights event, The Prince Phillip Challenge Trophy, but they are yet to win the junior quad title. There was very little between these crews at National Schools’ Regatta, so I think this is going to be a real humdinger to watch early in the morning.

42 3:05 Wargrave 110 Thames R.C D v 93 London R.C. ‘B’

It was tightly contested between these crews when they fought it out at the Women’s Head of the River in March. If we look at recent form, acknowledging potential crew changes, I think this will be a really tight one between two Tideway rivals. They’re neighbours on the Putney Embankment and will renew rivalries on the River Thames today.

62 PE 5:35 Radley College v 273 Windsor Boys’ School

An evening race, but I’m sure that these schoolboys will be raring to get going. Radley, another juggernaut in terms of junior rowing, won silver at the National Schools’ Regatta. Windsor Boys are a crew we normally see in the sculling boat. They are multiple winners of the Fawley Challenge Cup, but this year they have switched some of their attention and some of their rowers to the PE (Princess Elizabeth). Can they do it with one oar instead of two? It will be exciting to see today. Close neighbours are again fighting it out on the first day.
