Morning Briefing with Jess Eddie – Saturday 5 July, 2025

All you need to know about the racing today at Henley Royal Regatta with Olympic silver medallist and HRR Steward, Jess Eddie. There are some big races today on the cards. Here are my ones to watch.

25. 12:12 Grand 1 Cambridge University v 2 Hollandia R.C., NED

The Premier Eights, the International standard for the biggest of boats. The Blue Boat from Cambridge come up against Hollandia, the Dutch. A showdown that will see the full suite of Olympic rowers from Cambridge, alongside Olympic gold medallist, Tom Ford. It's a very strong-looking crew. Can a genuine University crew overturn an international crew in the Grand? Let’s see.

26. 12:20 Stewards’ 311 Oxford Brookes University and Leander Club v 310 Croatian Rowing, CRO

The Premier International Fours will see the GB coxless four against the new-look Croatian grouping. Look out for that boat; it has the Sinković brothers on board. They are absolute legends of the sport. Triple Olympic champions (twice in the pair and once in the double), it’s going to be a good one to watch down the course.

35 3:20 Bridge 22 Oxford Brookes University. ‘A’ v 16 Cambridge University

Cambridge Women came from behind yesterday to beat the U23 lineup. There might be some tired legs, but it will be a good showdown between Brookes and Cambridge.

37 3:40 Wyfold 392 Thames R.C ‘A’ v 372 London R.C. ‘A’

Absolutely classic clash of two huge Tideway clubs. Some might say this is the Final on the Saturday for that one.

45 6:00 PE 262 Shiplake College v 267 St Paul’s Sch.

I cannot not mention The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup. Shiplake against St Paul’s. It’s prime time. It’s the National Schools’ Regatta winners vs. St Paul’s, who are historically one of the strongest in this event and have won this Trophy twice in three years. St Paul’s have looked very strong in the opening stages of the Regatta, and this is one not to be missed.

48 6:30 Wargrave 107 Thames R.C. ‘A’ v 99 Molesey B.C. ‘A’

In this Women’s Club event, I think Molesey are my ones to watch in the category all round, so can Thames overturn them? Thames have won this event many times; they are the holders, but I think it will be a closely fought race.
