Morning Briefing with Jess Eddie – Wednesday 2 July, 2025

All you need to know about the racing today at Henley Royal Regatta with Olympic silver medallist and HRR Steward, Jess Eddie. The weather has cooled down, but here are my three races to keep a close eye on today.

24. 11:15  Wyfold 356 Crabtree B.C v 395 Tyne A.R.C

We saw Crabtree come through a tight race yesterday against Lea Rowing Club. They were aggressive with their steering, and we love to see that down the course, but you risk getting a warning from the Umpire. Tyne A.R.C., meanwhile, looked really strong yesterday, so it has all the makings of a great showdown in this much-anticipated Wyfold race.

26. 11.30 Prince Philip 296 Shiplake College v 290 Mercantile R.C, AUS

In The Prince Philip Challenge Trophy, Shiplake, who won the women’s championship eight title at the National Schools’ Regatta, take on Mercantile in this Junior Women’s eights event. One of the crews to watch this year, Shiplake should be fast running into the Regatta. They will come up against a really strong Mercantile crew from Australia. The girls from Melbourne looked calm yesterday on the water, so again, it has all the makings of a really intriguing showdown.

41. 2.30 Princess Elizabeth 266 St Ignatius College, AUS v 248 Hampton School

Another crew from Australia to keep your eye on here today at the Regatta. This St Ignatius outfit are one of the fastest schoolboy crews in the world right now. On the river today, they will take on Hampton, who I know have been training hard behind the scenes this year in preparation for the Regatta. They looked pretty sharp at the recent National Schools’ Regatta, finishing fourth overall, so it will be a closely fought race and certainly one not to miss.
