Umpire Launches at Henley Royal Regatta


Election of Steward (Jim Harlow, Esq.)


Jim Harlow, Esq. has been elected a Steward of the Regatta. 

Jim Harlow was educated in Oundle School and took up rowing at Birmingham University, where he was Captain and began coaching.

After a year in Australia, where he rowed for Adelaide Rowing Club, he returned to London and joined Vesta Rowing Club, where he represented the club in The Wyfold Challenge Cup at Henley.

Jim served as Captain of Vesta, having previously been the club’s Water Safety Adviser and Deputy Captain. He is a bronze award coach and has been a multi-lane umpire since 2010. Jim has a strong background in event organisation having been Chairman of the Vesta Veterans and Scullers Heads; Chairman of the British Senior and Junior Championships [since 2014] and the National Events Committee overseeing all Championships [since 2015]. He is a dedicated rowing volunteer. He has overseen the transformation and rapid growth of the Championships in recent years into separate Senior and Junior Events, as well as the introduction of para-rowing and BR Indoor Rowing Championships.

Jim has been actively involved with helping at Henley Royal Regatta for many years with duties including Qualifying Races, boat tents during the Regatta, and as part of the commentary team.

He is an Airline Pilot for BA - a training Captain on the Airbus A320.

A member of the Human Factor Standards Group – responsible for developing and supporting HF standards in Flight Operations and a Human Factors training course designer.

A CRM (Crew Resource Management) Instructor and Examiner.
